The amazing photographer, Thom Atkinson has recently published what he calls ‘Soldiers Inventories’ on his website. These photos are clearly a work of art and show a love for the subject that is sublime. Each piece is laid out as if it were part of a puzzle and every time I look at them, I spot something different, or work out a different combination as to…

The amazing photographer, Thom Atkinson has recently published what he calls ‘Soldiers Inventories’ on his website. It’s annoyingly close to a book/documentary that I was putting a pitch together for (although I still shall!) and the photography is gorgeous.

This is a fabulous resource for budding authors who want to write either historical fiction, historical…

Dalek Invasion – Third Con of the year

This guy scared the living shit out of all the kids. I want his job.

What the fuck? I don't remember taking this picture at all! The Silence photobombing us yet again!

What the fuck? I don’t remember taking this picture at all! The Silence photobombing us yet again!

Yeovilton Air Museum was one of my favourite places to go as a kid. When I were young, we were lucky to get away with a beating, a rotten potato and a trip with a couple of friends for our birthdays. Yeavilton was one of my…

Marshall Law – What an amazing cosplay!

I know you do, Den, I know you do.

As you might have guessed, I managed to sneak a few cons into the schedule this year. I chose to go to Nineworlds because Gav Thorpehad mentioned it and said that it was a good one to go to, and I needed to hand a copy of Raus! Untoten to one of the authors. I have to say that I think the price of £40 was a bit steep,…

UNITY - First con of the year

UNITY – First con of the year

image

UNITY is something I heard about on Facebook, I’m part of the Devon Geek Group and one of the key members, Kai Wong, owns the venue (a rather good chinese restaurant in Rockbeare).

As usual, I persuaded the youngest dort to come with me and have a look around. It’s a very small, friendly and local con and I felt that if I wanted to see more cons happening, I should get off my increasingly fat…

Potatoes - Well & Truly Sporked feedback

Potatoes – Well & Truly Sporked feedback

Writing is a cool thing to do. You have an idea, you write a story, poem or essay about it and you publish it (whichever way you want to, doesn’t matter). People then read it. However, many people can read something without ever letting you know that they actually liked it. Which is the uncool thing about being an author. Without reviews you can never tell if people are actually enjoying the…

Film people - I need your help

Film people – I need your help

There’s a thing that a number of friends and I do on the odd Friday that we call #manfriday. No, we don’t do the hashtag thing (much), but it is a night when our respective partners boot us out of the house and we eat fine ales and whiskeys, amazing steaks and talk shit. Plus it’s on a Friday.

We also commit to do things, usually after we’ve sunk a few beverages. Something that we’ve decided to…

Costa Short Story Awards are here

Costa Short Story Awards are here

Costa Book Awards - £3500 would get you a LOT of coffee!

Costa Book Awards – £3500 would get you a LOT of coffee!

Not only that, they’re offering a whopping £3500 first place, £1500 second place and £500 third. They’re going to shortlist six authors and then put them through the ringer by making them attend an all expenses-paid event in January 2015.

I think I’d be an emotional wreck by then, and I’m not sure that my version of fiction would be a…

I actually WROTE last night

20140629-102923-37763647.jpg I’ve set myself a daily 1000 word target. Every night so far I have hit or exceeded that, with the result that I’m ahead.

The book that I’m writing will hopefully be a 75,000 word children’s novel and will tell the adventures of the airship Merry Sue and her crew – the one-eyed gnome bounty hunter Two Pistols Pariah, Stokes, the peg-legged enginair, Whipsaw, the wingless Tree Fairy and…

Where I try to draw concepts for my next novel

Where I try to draw concepts for my next novel

image

Believe it or not, I can’t draw. However, I can draw well enough to enable the ‘lucky’ artist chosen to turn these images into reality and actually look fairly decent. Added to the descriptions from the text and the fluff for the Two Pistols Pariah universe, I’m hoping that these will look absolutely epic. Or at least better than what I’ve managed at least!

And if you’re wondering what Two…
